Funeral services celebrating the life of Viola Leona Hodel, age 89 of Albany will be 4 PM Saturday, July 16, 2011 at our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Albany. Pastor Brad Pearson will officiate, and a private burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service. Viola passed away early Wednesday morning at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Friends may call from 2 PM until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Brenny Funeral Home of Albany.Viola was born April 19, 1922 to Adolph and Bertha (Kleinschmidt) Lietz in Grey Eagle. She lived and grew up in Grey Eagle. She married Garfield Hodel on May 1, 1943 in Grey Eagle. After marriage the couple moved to Albany where she lived the rest of her life. Viola was a loving mother and home maker raising her two sons. Viola was a member of Ladies Aid and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Albany.Viola is survived by her sons Doug (Sharon) Hodel, Cold Spring; and Gene (Joyce) Hodel, Oak Grove, MN; her grand children Kimberly (Tom) Wunderlich, St. Augusta; Michelle Hodel, St. Cloud; Eric (Debbie) Hodel, Blaine; and her great grand children Alissa and Kayla Wunderlich.She is preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Bertha Leitz, her husband Garfield Hodel who passed away October 4, 1996, and 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
