


Christian funeral services celebrating the life of Leona Clara Curran, age 93 of Albany will be 11AM Saturday, July 6th 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farming Township. Reverend Fred M. Kutter and Pastor Tom Stoebig Sr. will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service. Leona took hold of the Lord’s hand on Saturday morning to walk with him through eternity where there will be no more suffering for her. There will be a gathering time prior to the service from 9:30-11AM Saturday morning at the church in Farming. Arrangements are being made with the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home of Albany. Leona was born October 31st 1919 in Albany to Emil and Alma (Jopp) Birr. She grew up in Albany, but later moved to the cities where she worked as a retail manager for Montgomery Ward for twenty years and Sears Roebuck for twenty years. She married Charles Curran on September 17, 1988 in Minneapolis. Years after Charles’s passing, Leona retired back to Albany where she lived the rest of her life. Leona was a true crafter at heart. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful crafts including many crocheted blankets she had gifted over the years. She was also a devout member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farming Township. Leona is survived by her step children Jim (Dianne) Curran, Florida; Steve (Patty) Curran, Arizona; Jody (Randy) Thoreson, Idaho; Jill (Gary) Nance, Oregon; her eight step-grandchildren; and her sisters Luella (Arthur) Hinnenkamp, Minneapolis; her brother-in-law Junior Cigelski, Parkers Prairie; many nieces and nephews; and her close friend Don Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Curran and her parents Emil and Alma Birr. A special thank you is extended from the family to the wonderful staff of Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany for their exceptional care they provided Leona over the years.
